Needed Tools in Every Home

Everyone has some sort of need for simple tools around their home. Something unexpected always comes up that might need the twist of a screwdriver or the grip of some pliers. What are some of the basics you should keep on hand just in case?

Keep a hammer handy. While there are many different types, a simple carpenter's hammer for simple needs is what you should look for. It has a curved claw that is perfect for removing nails, a flat head that is ideal for driving the nails in, and it is just considered a great all purpose hammer. If you are removing a nail from a service, it is wise to use a piece of wood on top of that surface to not only give you a bit of leverage, but to protect the surface as well.

Screwdrivers are a necessity. Choose one flat head and one Phillips screwdriver, generally in a medium size for most simple home projects.

Pliers come in handy for a variety of reasons. There are a variety of pliers like most all tools, so it is wise to have a good selection of them. If you have to choose only one, most home improvement stores will tell you to go with the slip-joint pliers. It is versatile and can tighten or loosen nuts or pull out small nails.

Keep a variety of nails and screws on hand. They will come in handy when you want to put up some photos or a mirror perhaps. Minor repairs often call for these little things, so having them in your toolbox just makes sense.

Finally, keep some pencils around. If you need to mark a spot to drive in a nail, or write down measurements to get the perfect fit, you'll be glad the pencils are right handy in the toolbox.

Everyone should keep a simple toolbox around to just make life a little bit easier.
